Position Summary: We are a leading Disaster Recovery Emergency Management Consulting firm and are growing our team of Disaster Response Specialists (DRS) for anticipated episodic opportunities to provide critical support to communities affected by disaster events. The Disaster Response Specialists we are seeking are knowledgeable and experienced in the Emergency Management Field. We provide a wide array of response services to clients working directly with affected individuals and communities operating in a variety of areas including shelter operations, EOCs, field operations, disaster recovery centers, and technology support roles, to name a few areas. The DRS will implement response strategies, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure services are provided as directed to meet the client needs. This is episodic work where you will deploy for potentially extended periods of time to work closely in the field supporting operations resulting from disaster events. Job Duties and Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
Deploy to disaster-affected areas to provide on-the-ground support.
Assist in setting up, managing, coordinating, and supporting operational needs of the response effort as directed.
Follow and enforce all guidelines, policies, and procedures associated with the assignment.
Clearly communicate and provide accurate and timely necessary information as directed.
Provide support and assistance to disaster survivors in DRCs, shelters, or other locations.
Provide support and assistance to EOCs and fulfill duty positions related to Response areas of responsibilities.
Collaborate with local agencies, non-profit organizations, and volunteers to maximize support efforts and streamline response activities.
Maintain accurate records of activities including incident logs, inventories, and operational updates.
Prepare detailed reports for internal review and external reporting to stakeholders as directed.
Participate in and assist with training programs to ensure a knowledgeable team meeting all project requirements.
Assist in planning and conducting drills and exercises to compliment and improve readiness.
Complete required trainings as directed.
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the mission.
Skills and Competencies:
Must have computer skills, including using Microsoft Office Suite applications with ability to quickly learn new computer software, programs, or tools.
Ability to work collaboratively in team settings and take initiative in leadership roles as needed.
Ability to assess situations and take appropriate action in accordance with policies and procedures.
Maintain a personal and professional high state of readiness and professional training.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to remain calm under stressful situations.
Current certifications in Incident Command System (ICS) and completion of applicable FEMA Independent Study courses, preferred.
Possess a valid state issued driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
Upon notification of activation, ability to quickly deploy to assigned client location.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Mobility required to travel to disaster sites and affected communities working on-site ex. Shelters, DRCs, mobile command centers, local government buildings, EOCs, or hospitals.
Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
Capability to work in adverse weather conditions and challenging environments.
Ability to work up to twelve-hour shifts and maintaining flexibility for longer shifts as needed.
Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time if needed.
Ability to lift 25 lbs. throughout the day and as needed.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
Qualified and experience as an ICS Command or General Staff Team Member, preferred.
Familiar with the preparation, activation, and demobilization of Incident Command Posts and/or Emergency Operations Centers, preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas preferred:
EOC Positions
Shelter Workers/Supervisors/Managers
Field Liaisons/Coordinators/Technicians
Mass Care Specialists
Logistics Specialists/Logistics Section Chief
Ground Support Specialists/Coordinators
Technology Support Specialists
