Position Summary:  Tidal Basin seeks a competent Eligibility Specialist to join the team supporting the Alaska Non-Congregate Sheltering (NCS) program. The position will assist with reviewing FEMA NCS applicants for those affected by Typhoon Nalong. This position represents an exceptional opportunity to join an expert team to facilitate change and help make a lasting difference.    

The Eligibility Specialist is responsible for reviewing the affected applicant’s FEMA NCS application and come to an eligibility determination.  The responsibility also includes evaluating previously denied applications for potential appeals. The Eligibility Specialist may potentially serve as a point of contact between the program and the applicant, and is expected to provide exceptional customer service while assisting the client in coordinating necessary services and resources to address their sheltering needs.

Eligibility Specialists will be responsible for meeting goals and objectives as assigned, complying with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements, and adhering to all contractual or prescribed stakeholder expectations or requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide eligibility/case management services and work effectively as part of a team. Specific duties may include:
  • Gather documents to establish program eligibility.
  • Once established, maintain a caseload of clients, and sustain regular and required contacts within guidelines.
  • Maintain a high standard to protect client information.
  • Provide resources and referrals to clients to meet their disaster-related unmet needs.
  • Attend meetings and training provided by Eligibility Supervisors/Lead, internal and external. 
  • Work collaboratively with Eligibility Supervisor and Program Management to meet program goals and performance targets.
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic and a desire to adhere to strict boundaries and professional ethics in the care of others, awareness of the impact of a disaster on the community, family, and individual. 
  • Maintain a complete understanding of all applicable Program policies and requirements.
  • Other duties as required.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new systems
  • Demonstrated case management and/or loan processing expertise 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and pro-actively identify key steps to complete requested client outcomes.
  • Excellent applicant relations and an understanding of local, state, and federal government structure
  • Experience working with grant programs
  • Previous Experience working with FEMA funded program(s) preferred
 
Required Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • One year experience preferred
  • Available to work 60 hours a week.
  • Experience preparing project worksheets
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Local to Alaska preferred.
