Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Cost Estimator to join our team. The Cost Estimator will be responsible for reviewing and determining the accuracy and completeness of residential property cost estimates for construction projects. This is a critical role that requires strong analytical and technical skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction estimating and a deep understanding of construction management principles.
Job Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Work with a team of professional estimators in delivering professional construction cost estimating services to various entities.
- Maintain good, healthy, professional client relationships, and provide cost estimating expertise to a reassessment team.
- Checks construction cost estimates submitted by general contractors for accuracy and completeness and compares them with estimates.
- Makes studies and prepares reports when contractors' bids vary widely from the agreed construction cost estimate.
- Prepares or reviews cost estimates for projects.
- Works with established information systems for maintaining data used in records, charts, and graphs reflecting estimated construction costs compared with actual costs.
- Assists other internal branches within the reassessment process.
- Prepares final independent cost estimates of properties damaged as a result of flood and wind events.
- Provides support in pricing reviews to floodplain management.
- Reviews contractor’s claims and proposals for merit and accountability.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Skills and Competencies:
- 10 years full time paid professional experience in the preparation of complete cost estimates for type I, II, or III, and V building construction as defined by the State building code.
- Knowledge of current local construction labor and material costs, experience with RS Means a plus.
- Extensive experience in developing and estimating the scope of work for change orders.
- Ability to compare the independent cost estimate with contractor proposal to quickly identify differences.
- Ability to review and determine if a proposed scope of work is sufficient to return a structure to its pre-damaged condition.
- Good oral and written communications skills.
Required Education and Experience:
- Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or construction management or more than 10 years of experience as a general contractor or cost estimator for residential properties to include manufactured housing units.
