Agronomist
THIS IS A TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Position Summary: The role of the Agronomist is to provide agricultural business and economics expertise to a Program that provides assistance to small-scale agricultural businesses seeking assistance for reaching long-term planning and business goals. The Program is funded through HUD CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT funds for recovery from Hurricanes Maria and Irma.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Work effectively as part of a team to provide expert quality assurance and quality control services for the Program. Specific duties may include:
- Evaluate applications for agricultural business assistance.
- Completion of Agronomist Reports for applications that validates, per program requirements, the applicant business model, reasonableness of request for funding, financial viability of business and/or proposed business plan.
- May attend on-site visits to applicant businesses to complete evaluation and contribute to applicant eligibility determination.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
- Other duties as required.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish/English preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Extensive computer/PC knowledge required. Skills to work with documentation and fully digital files.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, or related field.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in agronomy, as well as agriculture, field development, or research and development.
- Agronomist license.
- Prior experience in conducting agronomist evaluations (including evaluation of agricultural business pans) and deep knowledge of agricultural processes.
