Position Summary:
We are a leading Disaster Recovery Emergency Management Consulting firm and are growing our team of Surge Staff for anticipated opportunities to support our clients with preparations for, responding to, and recovering from federally declared disasters.
Potential candidates must have basic computer skills (including Word and Excel capabilities), exercise proper phone etiquette, be able to multi-task in a high volume, work in a high-pressure environment, and be willing to work a flexible schedule beyond the typical 40-hour work week.

The Surge Staff we are seeking need to be knowledgeable and experienced in:
Finance (Remote)
- Assisting the accounting department with reviewing expense reports, to ensure all reports comply with company policy. Providing phone support to inspectors reporting expenses, such as travel, lodging, meals and other expenses incurred while deployed to disaster affected areas. Financial/accounting background is preferred but not mandatory. This work is important, time-sensitive and requires a sense of urgency. Must be able to work independently and utilize the references given to meet the needs of FEMA.
Administrative Support (Assigning/Reviewing) (Remote)
- Providing email/phone/in person support to ensure all documents are submitted correctly, and other administrative office support as needed.
- Taking all registrations received from FEMA and assigning them to inspectors in the field so a Housing Inspection can be completed. Each registration is strategically assigned to an inspector within zip code proximity to more efficiently complete each inspection. This work is important, time-sensitive and requires a sense of urgency. Must be able to work independently and utilize the references given to meet the needs of FEMA.
- Review is to look at each registration/inspection in a queue within NEMIS (National Emergency Management Information System) on multiple computer screens thoroughly to make sure it is recorded accurately and follows FEMA guidelines. This work is important, time-sensitive and requires a sense of urgency. Must be able to work independently and utilize the references given to meet the needs of FEMA.
Call Center (Remote)
- Making outgoing calls and receiving inbound calls. These calls include: standby calls to ensure inspectors are prepared to go into the field when disasters are declared, deployment calls to deploy inspectors into the field, shelter Calls to stay in touch with applicants affected by the disaster and displaced from their homes, and when needed, assisting with calls for adjudication and badging, and other training events. Depending on the type of call, some data entry may be required. Must be able to follow scripts.
IT (Remote)
- Providing inspectors and internal staff with tech support for tablet or laptop issues and malfunctions. Also providing in office set up/reset passwords and general tech support. Previous experience with iPads, security-protected hardware and software desired.
Warehouse (Winchester, VA)
- Assisting in the Office Depot to organize, package, and ship equipment, such as tablets, to inspectors in the field. Helping to track and distribute office equipment and supplies.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Mobility required to work on-site with clients, ex. debris sites, local government buildings, EOCs, or hospitals.
- Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
- Ability to work up to twelve-hour shifts and maintaining flexibility for longer shifts as needed.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time if needed.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. throughout the day and as needed.
Quality Control (QC) (Remote)
- Reviewing inspections submitted by experienced QC inspectors, who reinspect a percentage of all initial and appeal inspections, to ensure applicants are receiving quality inspections from all inspectors. This department requires basic monetary calculations, organizational, writing, and data entry skills. A background in review is preferred. Other responsibilities include assigning housing inspections to QC Inspectors. This work is important, time-sensitive and requires a sense of urgency. Must be able to work independently and utilize the references given to meet the needs of FEMA.
